Chetan Sakariya is just one of many top Indian pace options are available to the Delhi Capitals (DC) have for the IPL 2023 season. After missing in the finals in the previous season and the Capitals will be looking to make improvements this time around.
But they were dealt an enormous setback when their captain and top wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant suffered a serious injury in a horrendous car crash and was forced to miss the entirety of the season. They will mourn him greatly due to his ability to win matches and will be unable to find a replacement for his talent.
Ahead of the course of an exclusive conversation on Sportskeeda, Chetan Sakariya discussed how the young players in the DC team are looking at this scenario. He clarified how crucial it is for other players to step up in Rishabh Pant‘s absence, and stated:
“Not having Rishabh bhai is a huge loss but the sign of a big team is that when players are ready to grab the opportunity with both hands in order to show what they’re capable of. I do believe there are youngsters in the team who will step up and prove their mettle, just as we did with Saurashtra in the absence of Jaydev bhai (Unadkat) and Cheteshwar bhai (Pujara).”
Sakariya has also shared his thoughts on the training camp is his participant in right now and the lessons he’s discovered with DC’s Director for Cricket as well as ex- Indian Captain Sourav Ganguly. He further said:
“It is a skill camp (for Delhi Capitals) for now and we are all working on the areas that we felt we lacked last season. Sourav bhai has observed our game closely and has given us clear instructions that we have to go for wickets in the powerplay and not think of being defensive. When you pick wickets in the powerplay then it becomes easier for the other bowlers in the middle overs to execute their plans.”
Chetan Sakariya on David Warner
David Warner has been named the captain of DC in Pant’s absence. It could be a fantastic move considering that he already taken home IPL 2016 with Sunrisers Hyderabad. IPL in 2016 for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
While Chetan Sakariya isn’t interacting much with Warner but he is convinced it is the combo of an Australian opener and Head coach Ricky Ponting will be key for the Capitals. He added:
“Whenever we are on the ground, he (Warner) helps me with the strategies and advises on what can be done in that situation. Although we haven’t interacted much, I do believe that his and Ricky sir’s experience will be crucial for us this season. They know what combinations to play in which conditions and what is the strength of each player in the squad.”
With Shardul Thakur being traded with the Kolkata Knight Riders, DC might be able to rely on Chetan Sakariya to make breakthroughs in various aspects of the game.
